DryBuddyFLEX 3 - More Details
DryBuddyFLEX 3 - More Details
Why DryBuddyFLEX works:
Three factors keep the child from waking alone and carrying out hygienic and medical procedures:
- The body's natural signals fail to tell the child that his or her bladder is full.
- They are sleeping too deeply to awaken to a sound, light or vibration.
- The child is too sleepy and lacks the motivation to get up and do the needful, falling back to sleep without concern.
One of the greatest impediments to the successful use of other systems that just use an alarm in the patient's room, is that a parent or caregiver has to sleep in the child's room to hear the alarm and ensure that the child wakes up and that procedures are followed. Many parents find this to be the most objectionable aspect of training the child, and wish that they could sleep in the comfort and privacy of their own room and be woken up only when the child urinates. Parental involvement with very sleepy or unresponsive children is essential to ensure that the child responds, wakes up, and follows the appropriate steps for hygienic and medical reasons.
- The DryBuddyFLEX approach is unique because it allows the parent/caregiver and the child/patient to sleep in the privacy and comfort of their own rooms, or even be elsewhere in the house.
- Caregivers may place an alarm anywhere in the patient's house where there is a standard electric socket. If the distance of a transceiver/alarm is too far, one or more additional transceivers can help to re-transmit the alarm and remote signal.
- Caregivers may also add one optional 12V DC alarm device at each alarm location (a bed shaker/vibrating alarm or audio alarm can be attached to each transceiver and placed close to the patient or other users). The bed shaker is particularly useful and effective for deep sleepers and patients with hearing deficiencies.
- Another important advantage is that the sensor is completely wireless, so that there are no wires to entangle the patient, cause discomfort, or break. The child (or patient) can move around inside the house, or limited distances outside the house, and still activate the alarms by being within range (up to 90 feet) pf the closest transceiver. Except for the small, light wireless sensor, and possibly the special DryBuddy wetness sensing briefs if that option is selected, no other device or article is worn or attached to any part of the patient or the patient's clothing.
- The sensor is small, light, and comfortable, and remains in place while the patient sleeps. The magnetic cap makes attaching and removing the sensor to regular briefs easy and convenient and does not damage clothing. When used with the special wetness sensing briefs, only the sensor is attached to these briefs near the waist.
- Yet another advantage is that you do not need any special expendable or disposable supplies for the DryBuddyFLEX system. Nor do you have to cut, sew, tape or take any special actions with clothing. No more sheets, liners, pads, sewing or taping parts, etc. This can provide significant savings in cost and hassle for you over the lifetime of your use of the product. The DryBuddyFLEX wetness sensor can be easily attached to any moisture absorbent clothing (for example, briefs made of cotton) which your child or patient uses. Or be used with the DryBuddy wetness sensing briefs.
- A Remote control facilitates using the DryBuddyFLEX bed wetting alarm system. Convenience at your fingertips. Switch the system and alarms off and on from the comfort of your bed.
After a period of time, a conditioning linkage takes place - instead of a full bladder leading to a few drips leading to a caregiver's alarm, who then wakes the child to go to the bathroom and clean up, the full bladder leads the child directly to the bathroom.
"More than 80% of the children who use these alarms become, and more importantly, stay dry."
How DryBuddyFLEX Works: a simple 3-step process…
- The DryBuddyFLEX sensor registers urination during sleep (or while the patient is awake).
- Upon sensing the urine, the sensor sends a wireless signal which is picked up by a receiver in the patients's room, attached to an alarm. The alarm is activated to wake the patient. At the same time, other receivers/alarms in the house also receive the signal, either directly or by re-transmission.
- The additional transceiver(s) (in the caregiver's room or elsewhere) then alerts the caregiver, who wakes the patient and makes sure that the proper steps are taken. This is the difference between DryBuddyFLEX and other enuresis products - many children are too sleepy to take care of themselves on their own - that is why the intervention of a parent/caregiver is important and necessary for successful training. However, with DryBuddy, it is not necessary for the caregiver to sleep in the same room with the patient in order to be alerted. The remote control allows the caregiver to control the bedwetting alarm system from his/her bedroom. Stop bedwetting with ease and convenience for all!

DryBuddyFLEX Sensor
flex-sensor-headerThe DryBuddyFLEX sensor is unique in allowing the user to use it in either of two distinct ways as may be most convenient and comfortable for the user and caregiver.
-
Comfort
This small, lightweight, and wireless sensor is the only device in contact with the patient and his/her clothing. This patented sensor is truly wireless. Not having wires or other alarm devices attached to the patient's body or clothing leads to additional comfort. Our sensor is unique in that it is completely non-damaging to clothing and other fabrics.
Used as a Magnetic Sensor, the patented magnetic locking system keeps the sensor in place and is extremely easy to use. The sensor is attached outside of the undergarment or pajama (whichever is closest to the skin), and only the magnetic cap is on the inside of the clothing. This rounded cap is small, comfortable and non-irritating.
When used with DryBuddy's wetness sensing briefs, the DryBuddyFLEX sensor and the briefs make a comfortable system with a large area over which wetness can be sensed. These DryBuddy briefs use a unique design in which the sewed-in wiring has significant redundancy. So if a wire were to break or get damaged for any reason, depending upon where this break occurred, a significant part of the briefs would still be usable for wetness sensing. Standard wired briefs, using only one two long wires, can become useless if there is a break in the wire.
-
Convenience
Attaching the sensor to the garment with the magnetic cap is simple. Furthermore, the magnetic attachment system does not damage the clothing and does not use indentations in the clothing or mechanical force to keep the sensor in place.
The sensor and its cap are very easy to clean, which allows them to be re-used quickly and conveniently.
Using the DryBuddy wetness sensing briefs is as natural as using regular briefs. The DryBuddyFLEX sensor connects to the briefs using snaps near the waist-band. The sensor is firmly held in place by a velcro band around it.
-
The Unique DryBuddyFLEX Sensor
The wireless DryBuddyFLEX sensor is unique in that it can be used to sense wetness in two ways:
- As a magnetic sensor, by clamping the sensor on the outside of standard cotton briefs with the cap on the inside of the briefs, or attached with snaps to the special DryBuddy wetness sensing briefs.
- The sensor is small, light, and easy to wear and clean. It contains a sealed battery, and is designed and tested to work for over three thousand "triggers" of sensing wetness
Another unique aspect of the sensor is that it is designed to be triggered by a sudden inflow of wetness, as may occur during urination. A gradual increase in wetness, as may be caused by perspiration, will not trigger the sensor.
-
Inexpensive to Use
There are no extra supplies required to use the DryBuddy sensor. Simply place the sensor at the desired location and hold it in place with the magnetic cap. Or attach it to the DryBuddy wetness sensing briefs. Apart from the money that may be continuously spent on supplies for using or attaching other sensors, including tapes, pads, sewing, etc. which is not needed with the DryBuddyFLEX, add the extra time, effort and inconvenience of performing these modifications, and the cost and hassle associated with using other bedwetting alarms can be significant over time.
-
No Damage
The magnetic attachment for the sensor is easy to use and does not damage clothing.
The unique DryBuddy wetness sensing briefs are designed for use with the DryBuddyFLEX sensor.

DryBuddy Wetness Sensing Briefs
These briefs, with "redundant wiring" sewed into them so you cannot see the wiring, are reliable wetness sensors. "Redundant wiring" allows the briefs to be usable if the wire is broken in a non-critical location. The briefs come in several sizes for children through teens (or young adults). Please measure the waist of the child or patient carefully before ordering. Measure the waist at the "belly button." Note that some shrinking can occur when the briefs are washed.
The DryBuddy wetness sensing briefs can be hand or machine washed. Please wash gently using cold or mildly warm water, with no wringing or squeezing. Do not use bleach or abrasive substances or harsh processes. Air dry or use the delicate cycle on a dryer with low temperature. The briefs must be washed before their first use to make certain that starch or any other substances used in their manufacture is washed away. This will allow the cotton briefs to properly absorb fluids.
General Note: Please read the FAQ section of the DryBuddyFLEX for additional information that may be relevant to the Sensor, Briefs, and their use.

DryBuddyFLEX Transceiver, Remote & Optional Alarms
DryBuddyFLEX Transceiver
Two wireless transceivers are provided with a standard two alarms DryBuddyFLEX system kit, while one transceiver is provided with a standard one alarm kit. Each transceiver's power supply should be plugged into a standard 120V 60Hz electric socket as is commonly found in the U.S. and other countries in North America, or into a 220V-240V 50Hz electric socket as is commonly found in Europe and the U.K. The 12V DC from the power supply is fed into the socket at the rear of the transceiver. The first transceiver is intended to be used in the child or patient's room, and the second in the parent or caregiver's room. Each transceiver contains a built-in audio alarm, which is triggered when the sensor senses wetness. The volume of each alarm is adjustable. The loudness of the built-in alarm is 97.2 dB at a distance of 20 centimeters (8 inches), 91.5 dB at a distance of 60 centimeters (2 feet), and 86.4 dB at a distance of 1.5 meters (5 feet). The volume can be changed to multiple sound levels ranging from very soft to very loud. In addition, the user can select between the very effective sounds of a Trumpet Fanfare or a Berlin Police Siren.
Apart from serving as an audio alarm, the transceiver serves to receive and retransmit any wireless signal that it receives from the sensor, the remote control, or another transceiver in the system. This makes the DryBuddyFLEX transceiver unique, as transceivers can be used to extend the range of any original transmitted signal. Consequently, the DryBuddyFLEX system can sound alarms at substantial distances from the sensor, by each transceiver not only serving as an alarm, but also serving as a relay to pass the signal to the next transceiver or transceivers within range.
Each DryBuddyFLEX transceiver also contains one 12V DC power socket at its rear, into which an appropriate auxiliary or optional alarm can be connected to provide additional alerts to the user.
DryBuddyFLEX Remote
One wireless remote is provided to help:
- Set-up the system,
- Turn off the alarms when they have been turned on, and
- Turn the system completely off (when it is not to be used), and turn it on and into the ready state so that the system will respond when the sensor senses wetness.
These capabilities of the wireless remote makes using the DryBuddyFLEX system very convenient for the caregiver and user, avoiding the inconvenience of manually finding and switching various components of a system, frequently in the dark.
A user's blog about "Remote Makes Handling Bedwetting Problems Much More Convenient" can be read here.
General Note: Please read the FAQ section of the DryBuddyFLEX for additional information that may be relevant to the Transceiver, Remote, and their use.
Optional DryBuddyFLEX Alarms
These alarms are offered by DryBuddy as additional conveniences for the users. As the transceiver's built-in audio alarm is typically on a table top, it is possible that the user may require or prefer an additional alarm in their close proximity.
Audible Alarm
Audible alarms are provided for the user's convenience, so that there is a device in the close proximity of the user to sound an alert. The audio alarm is typically conveniently placed on a bed-side table beside the user, but can also be placed on the bed beside the user's pillow. It has a two meters long power cable that is plugged into a 12V DC power socket on the side of a transceiver. The alarm volume is adjustable according to the user's needs. At a typical distance of two feet (60 cms) from the ear, the loudness of the audio alarm is 82.5dB, and is much louder if placed beside the pillow. Apart from an audible sound, the LED light on the front of the alarm lights when the alarm is turned on by the DryBuddy system. The ON/OFF switch on the top of the alarm facilitates turning it on or off during setup and use. Turn the transceiver off using the remote or manually to stop the alarm sounding. The alarm's cord is 2 meters in length (about 79 inches).
Bed Shaker and Vibratory Alarm
The Shake&VibrateTM Bed Shaker is designed to alert a sleeping or hearing impaired person by its powerful vibration. This reliable device is easy to use and very effective. Place the bed shaker under the sleeper's pillow, or between the bed mattress and its box spring. Plug the two meters long power cord into the 12V DC power socket of the transceiver. When the transceiver is activated, the bed shaker will vibrate, and alert the user. Turn the transceiver off using the remote or manually to stop the bed shaker's vibrations. The alarm's cord is 2 meters in length (about 79 inches).
General Note: Please read the FAQ section of the DryBuddyFLEX for additional information that may be relevant to the audio alarm and the bed shaker and their use.
